Vegan Vacation in Arizona Finale

After our (mis)adventure on the hiking trail in Phoenix and our relaxing day watching Noah while gorging on awesome vegan food, we decided to take everyone’s advice and drive to Sedona. Originally we were just going to rent a car to explore the surrounding area of Phoenix, but the concierge of the hotel encouraged us to take the short drive to Sedona. Everyone we talked to told us about how awesome Sedona was but we didn’t realize how close of a drive it was to Phoenix until she planned out our day for us. I’m so thankful that we talked to her because this was, by far, our favorite part of the trip.

We got up early on the day of our trip to Sedona and stopped at Montezuma Castle along the way. It was pretty cool to see a castle in the cliffs like that!

Once we got into Sedona, we grabbed food from New Frontiers so we could have a vegan picnic later on in the day. Before our picnic, we stopped to check out one of the energy vortexes. It was incredible, and I don’t even know how to describe it. I felt so calm and at peace while I was there. I meditated while taking in the entire landscape of the red rocks, and I even got teary-eyed at one point. It’s just one of those things you have to experience to believe it.

Then, we decided to picnic at Red Rock State Park, which has an incredible view of the cathedral vortex. Check out the scenery and the awesome food that we got from New Frontiers!

We walked around on a trail after lunch, which was really relaxing. We saw stacked rocks everywhere, which is a form of art (you can read more about it here). At one point, we sat by the river and just listened to the birds chirping and the water babbling. Sorry for sounding so cliché, but I felt extremely zen when we left there.

We went ahead and headed back to Phoenix after that, washed up at the hotel, and grabbed dinner at Green New American in Tempe (home of Arizona State University). Man, I wish I had a restaurant like this when I was in college! The food was really tasty and the atmosphere was super cool.

One last photo before I finish up: I attended a conference while I was out there and I was impressed by the food the Ritz had on their in-room dining menu. They even marked items “vegan” on the menu! I had the homemade veggie burger with steamed spinach and fruit. It was delicious!

It was such an amazing trip that left us feeling so rejuvenated and positive.
