Over the past month, my husband and I have been getting acclimated and settling in to our new life in Colorado Springs. It’s been absolutely terrific, and we’re loving every moment that we’ve been here. Something that’s helped us adjust quickly has been the vegan and vegetarian meetup group. If you’re vegan, vegetarian or even veg-curious, you should consider joining your local veg meetup group. They have all sorts of events where you can learn more about veganism or just meet some like-minded folks. There’s also some other groups on meetup that I’m excited about getting more involved with, like the animal rights group and the hiking club.
One of our first meetups was at the VegFest Colorado, which I wrote about in this post. We had such a great time there and I can’t wait until next year’s event.
The next meetup was a mini vegan pop-up market where the group had a table with the amazing JL Fields selling copies of her book Vegan For Her and the good folks from ZolaJerk selling their vegan jerky. I got a copy of JL’s book (finally!) and bought some jerky. We also stopped at the food trucks across the street that had some pretty good vegan grub.
The next meetup event was a vegan potluck that I actually co-hosted at our new place! There’s nothing like breaking bread with good people to make it feel like home. The food was amazing – check out the spread in the pictures below.
Tonight, I’m excited to say that we’re having our very first vegan book club at Nourish. I had brought up the idea to JL and she’s so fantastic that pretty much the next day we had the book picked out and all the details sorted out. JL definitely makes things happen!! I’m really excited about the book that we’ll be discussing. The Chain by Robin Lamont is a fictional suspense novel about an animal welfare investigator who is brought to a small town that survives off of a meat-packing plant. I’m not a fast reader by any means, and I finished this book in the span of 2 days. I’m going to write a review on it, but I’ll save that for another post that’ll be up soon. And, the most exciting part about this meetup is that Robin Lamont is joining us via Skype – how awesome is that?!
So, all in all, we’re settling in quite nicely and I really have the meetup group and JL to thank for that!
I’m SO GLAD you moved to Colorado Springs! xoxo

Wow! You’ve been busy. I’m glad you’re enjoying Colorado. That potluck sounds like fun and I’m jealous you get to hang out with JL.

Hanging out with JL has definitely been a highlight of living here! You should join our potlucks some time. A lady from Denver made the trip this past time.
